The latest contribution from multi-platinum, Grammy Award winners, Jars of Clay, "Redemption Songs,"is a collection of reinvented ancient hymns and spiritual songs. As part of a church community that believed passionately the blessing of understanding the story of redemption through early church songs and ancient hymns, Jars of Clay found themselves a part of a growing renaissance... , one that inspired them to write new songs using the rich hymn texts as the foundation. This renaissance was the beginning of "Redemption Songs,"a blend of familiar hymns, spirituals and ancient texts.
"Redemption Songs"is a timeless musical testimony of the Gospel story reaching throughout history to give us roots and wings and reminding a new generation that they are a part of the ongoing Redemptive story.

I am so impressed as to how long these guys have been in the business! I mean, lots of bands just sing around, and when they become famous, they start having problems... but not with these guys! Keep up the good work!

New life for ancient hymns.

Jars of Clay has crafted a refreshing, one of a kind project, with Redemption Songs, a collection of reinvented ancient hymns and spiritual songs. This will certainly prove to be one of Jars' most lasting pieces of work. From the moment it begins to the final note, they lead us along a wonderful journey through past hymn lyrics and infuse them with a sound relevant to today's listeners, breathing new life to these ancient treasures. Do not let this album pass you by! It is unlike anything in modern music today. Considering the piles of worship projects being produced each year, this one stands out as unique, original, musically and lyrically rich. Jars of Clay is a band who continues to astound me with their thoughtful projects...they keep getting better and better.

A New Twist to the Same Old Jars

You can hear the passion Jars of Clay has for Hymns during this album. Musicially, Jars goes as deep as they evey have to give their own folk-rock flavor to songs out of the oldest church hymnals around. The partnership with the Blind Boys of Alabama on a couple songs is really awesome.

Jars of Clay is a very dynamic band. Anyone who likes a bit of every style of music should try them. Jars incorporates a bit of rock, pop, bluegrass, and folk into their music. Also, all of their records have wonderful messages . . . .as do their actions in humanitarian work. As you can tell, I'm a big fan of Jars and I encourage everyone to check them out. I belive they are the most influential and crucial bands for Christian music.

all of their work! i have them all

i always look foward to anything new they have. i even have both the cd's of city on the hill. their songs remind me of my faith and keep me believing or at least renew it. they write from the heart of matters that we can all understand and have experienced. playling their songs put me in such a uplifting mood or when i need a good cry or remind me that i'm human and make mistakes. i remember their first song and knew exactly what was about, flood, even though they played it on a rock station, i knew better of the impact it made because of the words. the first time i heard it i cried; this was when realized that it was a christian song. i sang rock for many years and blues, now i'm a nurse. i recomend their music to any one of all age groups, regardless of what they usually listen to. thanks guys

A Masterpiece

Let me confess that I'm not impartial - I've loved just about everything Jars has done since "Flood." However, this project of traditional hymns seemed a real departure. Having listened, it has just deepened my feeling that Jars is the most musically sophisticated and risk-taking band on the Christian music scene. Every track on this CD is solid!

Redemption songs
June 14, 2005
Reviewer:

Jars of clay have bucked the usual trend of Christian Artists trying to become more popular with the world. They were big to start off but with each new album they become more and more focused on worship and on Jesus. This new album is a collection of old hymns given a Jars of Clay twist with a little help from a few friends and it comes together really well. Pick it up now! Personal picks: God will lift up your head, Nothing but the blood and Let us love and sing and wonder.

Jars of Clay Redemption Songs - back to their roots!

I thought this was a good cd. It is different from their past albums. I think it is in a good way, due to that this has more of a Godly feel. They did the hymms well. They seemed to be back to the roots of their Christianity, and I liked it!

I Love It!

This CD is great! I have always liked Jars Of Clay, and this album was not a disapointment. God Be Merciful To Me, I'll Fly Away, and They'll Know We Are Christians By Our Love are a few of my favorite songs on this disc. Most of the songs aren't changed so much that you can't quickly pick it up and sing along, but they all sound fresh and new.
