Product Description

? We feel like we?re just getting started?, says Kevin Young, lead singer of Disciple. Yeah, right. Just getting started. Disciple has been together for over 10 years ' since the band was in high school - having played over 1,200 concerts to hundreds of thousands of hard-core, devoted fans. They released 6 albums, their last one selling 35,000 independent units, garnered 6 number one rock hits and received 4 Dove nominations for Best Hard Rock Song and Album of the Year. They managed and booked themselves. Their email database goes on for days, and they have thousands of fans post to their message board every week. In their free time they head for Europe to headline tours. These are the kind of statistics that many major label artists would be proud of, but Disciple is that rare band that has done it on their own with little help from the machine called the music business.

better than ever........... June 8, 2005
Reviewer: from dodge city kansas

I first started listening to Disciple 3 years ago and since have bought all of their cd's. The new cd Rise Up is even better than ever, from the ballads to the rocking songs. In my opinion this is probably their best yet . Although I thought that of their last cd. I have listened to it twice so far and it never gets old.
This is well worth getting, it will be in my cd player for a long time.

Double-Edged Sword June 30, 2005
Reviewer: Michael from Atlatna, GA

Disciple is one of those bands that I really like. They have been around for a good deal of time and most of everything that they do is pretty much on their own, without the help of the big 'American Music Machine.' Sure, that leaves when the going gets really tough, but at the same time... it shows us that these guys have a real passion for the things that they do. After several albums (that have gotten good praise), they put their latest offering on the platter: "Rise Up." After hearing several snips of sounds clips from their website, I was stoked about getting the album. So, does it hold up as being their best one yet?

Well, it's a mixed bag. I had high expectations for this release, but they have fallen short. Yet, that doesn't mean that this isn't an album worth owning. It's one of those that you like to listen to, hate to put it down, but wish it was a lot more than what you're given. The biggest change for the band is not so much their sound as it is the 'radio-friendly' vocals that have been woven into some rather hard hitting parts... here and there, at least. Kev's vocals are toned down, but still deliver the same intensity when the time comes for it. Past listeneres of Disciple will tell you one or two things: Either they 'rock like crazy' or 'I can't stand all that screaming.' So, I think the band's approach into this album was good, seeing as they were trying to appeal to the 'I like it not-so-hard' crowd that would give Disciple a chance.. if it wasn't for all that 'blasted yelling!' (Dern Teens and your music!) But it's a welcome change. I think fans and new comers a like will like the more mellow change, as they will feel like they aren't totally being robbed of that raw energy that has made Disciple a favorite.

The music, too, has changed a little bit. It's not quite as heavy as some of the last projects, but I like the more 'Sevendust' type of sound that I find in various songs. (Yeah, yeah... I know... Nu-Metal is stupid. Maybe so, but there's a reason that it's popular, even when people hate it. It's because people like the sound!) They get heavy here, they get soft here... there's something for everyone. They even mix up a track or two with that 'acoustic softness' that they pull on every album and they do a great job with it.

With Wyrick at the helm of production, you can expect that this album sounds top-notch. The sound is clear and I can honestly say that this album hits harder than any other album, but it's clean. Other albums have hit pretty well, but only to have the album marked by some noise or unpolished spots that seem to get in the way from total enjoyment. Those are gone and you have the best quality album that Disciple has put out as well. But, with that being said... fans of Wyrick's music might also notice something in here which I felt didn't belong. I would be talking about the 'sound samples' that you hear for a split second in the background. They are obvious from the opening track 'The Wait Is Over' and continue on out through the album. It's not the sounds or where they are that leave the bitter taste in my mouth, but rather or less: These are the same samples I've heard on Wyrick's music! In fact... when I first started listening to the disc I couldn't help but think: "I did buy a DISCIPLE disc, right?"

My last complaint with the album is what I call the 'radio demanded recording.' In other words: Out of 14 songs, the average track time is 3:00 minutes (or even less.) Just when songs get wound up and ready to roll... they start to shut down and next thing you know, it's time to move on to something else. The album is way to short (even with 14 song) and sadly, the songs are all very predictable. All songs follow the same format: 'Verse A, Chorus, Verse B, Chorus... maybe Chrous again... small breakdown... end song." The breakdowns are mostly dry as well... offering no real creativity in them and lack any kind of real drive behind them, save for maybe one that we find in 'Rise Up.'

I know it sounds like I'm very negative on the album. The truth is that I feel it will be very popular with those fans that have wanted to get into Disciple, but didn't like the hard edge that they offered in the past. Radios will eat it up as well, as the songs are very radio friendly (as we stated above.) Worth the purchase? Yeah, I believe so. Even with all the things that I think kept it from being a VERY good album, it still shine when it needs to and I recommend Disciple fans (both new and old) to pick it up and add it to the collection. Maybe the next release they have will address these issues... but until then... I'm going to stick with "Back Again" when I want to know what Disciple is REALLY like.

THIS CD IS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! June 13, 2005
Reviewer: Patrick from Terre Haute, IN

Disciple is back and better than ever. The lyrics in their songs are incredibly inspring (and uplifting) and all inspired by or come straight from scripture. They don't back down with their awesome hard rock riffs and incredible tempos to their songs. The lead singer has an awesome voice and he has truly been given a gift from God to do what he does. Mostly the whole CD is very uptempo and has a very edgy rock feel to it; it is in no way mediocre rock at all! They have really gotten some new awesome stuff out here for EVERYONE to listen to. The group really lives up to their name: Disciple. They truly are bringing the word of God to us along with some awesome music! This CD rocks - check it out!

DISCIPLE ROCKS! July 15, 2005
Reviewer: Tim from

I love this band. This album is a little different from their other cds, but still great music all around. Disciple knows how to rock. This album has great lyrics, but I don't own the first cd by Disciple that doesn't have good lyrics. I highly recommend this cd to anyone who likes rock.

Reviewer: Michael from San Angelo Texas

I got a chance to get an early copy and I can say that this CD is truly one of my top chices now! This CD has all the powerful Guitars, strong drums and some hard hitting BASS!!!! The Rifs in here remind me of the Old school rock that has an awesome sound! The lyrics are pretty powerful as well. There is a lot of worship in this CD, and that makes it an awesome deal! This is a must for anyone that likes truck Rock!!!!

Changed too much June 10, 2005
Reviewer: Anonymous from McConnells, SC

I wasn't happy with their change in sound. I understand growth in a band but they sound a lot like Pillar with a little more edge. Pillar is Pillar and Desciple should still be Disciple. But it is still something I will listen too, but I will probably listen to the old stuff more.

This is a very uplifting and inspirational CD. It keeps the rock and still it is an inspirational album. I would recommend it to everyone because, it has good catchy tunes to sing and praise God with. It makes you want to be a disciple.

I have never been a fan of disciple, but after reading so many top reviews, I decided to buy it. This is an awesome album! You can tell that they have been around for a while by their mature, Christ-centred lyrics and the musical composition. I would definately recommend this C.D. to anyone.
