Caedmon's Call
Caedmon's Call (1997)
Like the 7th-century herdsman who inspired their name, this acoustic folk-rock band answers the call to create music reflecting spiritual truths. Foot-tapping melodies and powerful lyrics blend on "Lead of Love,""This World,""Hope To Carry On,"and more.

First=Best . . . ???

Nothing like a band's first big release. I must admit, I've always been biased to a band's freshman effort . . . and in Caedmon's Call's case, the same remains true. "Not the Land" and "Center Aisle" rank as my all-time favorite Caedmon's Call songs. What's more, "Not the Land" marks what is probably Caedmon's Call's quintessential rock song – intense vocals, cogent lyrics . . . everything you could ask for from Christian rock. Give it a try . . . then check out their later CDs.

Easily on my top ten list. This album strikes the heart and mind by challenging Christian complacency (Not the Land, Stupid Kid), suicide (Center Aisle), and walking the "Strait and Narrow" (Standing Up for Nothing, Coming Home).
