What's all the commotion in the stable behind the inn? That's the logical question of Jacob and Anna, siblings living in Bethlehem at the time of Caesar's census. Like detectives on a stakeout, the children observe a man and his tired-looking wife enter the stable with a basket of cloth. They hear the man repairing the broken manger inside, and also see the innkeeper's son bringing the couple a blanket. But once Anna and Jacob hear nearby shepherds buzzing about the Savior being born, they must go to the stable and investigate for themselves. As its title promises, this tale, illustrated with appealing pencil/pastels, brings a bit of gentle suspense to the Nativity story.
