Brave Saint Saturn is the members of former ska band Five Iron Frenzy. So if you are a fan of FIF, you must have this CD already. If you don't have it yet, it is definitely for you! Their music style has changed from ska to a more slow rock style with a twist of a space-age like mood. The CD reveals a story throughout, with almost every other track having dialogue of astronauts and such. You might think that means less songs on the CD, but it is actually what makes this CD unlike any other, kind of movie-like and very surreal. It is a great CD to add to your Christian music collection.

Darker . . . Better

Five Iron Frenzy's side-project – Brave Saint Saturn – releases its sophomore effort . . . and there is much to be hopeful with here. The first album ("So Far From Home"), while solid, lacked some of the serious edge I had hoped for coming in. "The Light of Things Hoped For" delivers, with dark and edgy songs like "Heart Still Beats" and "Daylight," counterbalanced by the lighter, and more wistful "The Sun Also Rises" and "I Fell Away." Need an FIF fill . . . try out Brave Saint Saturn.

this album reminds me of an entire season in my life. I listened to it repeatedly beacuse the music was so wonderful and the lyrics so edgy and interesting! It tells the story of a Christian's struggles and hopes and the faithfulness of God to fulfill those hopes...in a story fashion about astronauts getting lost in space...but it comes down to God's faithfulness and how that relates to us in our dark times ~ when things get rough and we get scared and hopeless, God is still majorly faithful! These guys have incredible voices and awesome melodies.

Roper and Company At Their Best...

This CD is utterly amazing. From the first time I listened to it all the way through, to subsequent listenings, it gets better every time. The Light of Things Hoped For is a musical exposition of the events that happen after those on Brave Saint Saturn's So Far From Home. On this journey, the "pilots" (or rather, the band members) of the U.S.S. Gloria face trials and tribulations, tragedy and failures, only to find a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Highlight tracks are The Sun Also Rises and I Fell Away, a pair of upbeat rock songs which feature a pleasant monosynth rock sound. Also, there's Baby's Breath, a quiet lullaby that's very nice. Enamel is another highlight, an angry break up song that is actually quite good, musically. The CD finally culminates with Daylight, a VERY powerful song that made shivers run down my spine the first time I heard it. What really makes this album shine are Reese Roper and Dennis Culp's lyrics. Roper wrote the lyrics for most songs, and as usual, his gift for the written word shines through. Culp should not be overlooked, however, because the two songs that he wrote for this album are incredible. Heart Still Beats is a song longing to help the poor and those in pain and Recall is a soft rock song. From beginning to end, the 15 tracks of The Light of Things Hope For are just a powerful, moving experience.

Simply a fantastic album

There are some albums that are simply so awesome that once you hear the first song, you have to sit still have listen to the rest; this is one of them. If you like Five Iron Frenzy (whose members are behind this project), then you will enjoy this album. The style is reminiscent of Skillet, with an edgy, modern-alternative rock feel.

This album blew my mind. There are so many good songs on it. After being told of Reese's side project and then hearing that they were a "space-rock" style I sincerely had my doubts. But believe me, listen to this it is unbelievable. Some of the songs have such an amazing lesson to learn from them. Buy this, you will not be disappointed.

Outstanding!

This album is not for the feint hearted in music exploration but even more so in deep lyrics. From beautiful songs about baby’s breath to heart rending lyrics about the loss of a friend or the hope to hopelessness in life, every song is a deep, lyrical masterpiece. The instrumentation is unusual but outstanding. I don't think I've ever heard a xylophone, piano, synthesizer, guitar and the wheels of steel together on one album let alone one song. Extremely highly recommended!
